10 Easy Steps to Save Energy & Money

The economy is going down, everyone’s asking what to do now and what’s going to happen. One of the main issues is the strike threat during this winter by Eskom workers for better pay. What’s going to happen when Eskom management and the union don’t come to an agreement? Eskom recently announced that it intends increasing electricity tariffs by more than 30% before this coming winter. I don’t know what the government will actually do. I know that it always promises to do something, but will they really do something this time around?

What can we do as responsible citizens to help the government and Eskom during these trying times? I propose that we should conserve energy while government and Eskom are working on ways to resolve the energy crisis in our country. We are using electricity every single day; is it not time to look at how we can save energy just by following a few simple steps at home.

Here are the ten steps:

1) Turn off the lights, and unplug any unused appliances, they still use a lot of energy even when not in use. (Save a few hundred Rands a year)

2) Put a sleep feature on computers and printers to shut down after 5 minutes of no use (Save a few hundred Rands a year)

3) Replace incandescent light bulbs with Energy efficient florescent bulbs. (Saving you a few hundred Rands a year per bulb including cost of the bulb)

4) Install water efficient fixtures. A duel-flush toilet saves 15,000 litres per year. Replace 4 faucets and 2 shower heads (Save a couple of thousands a year)

5) Turn off the heat or air conditioning when at work or bedtime. (Saving as much as 30% off your energy bill)

6) Pull down your storm windows or seal with plastic in winter. Replace weather stripping. (Save as much as 40% off of your energy bill)

7) Seal holes and cracks in your basement with expandable foam or silicon caulking. Insulate hot water pipes and heating ducts in the basement. (Save hundred of Rands a year including cost of materials)

8) Insulate your basement perimeter, basement ceiling, and attic. Get a free home energy audit from a credible service provider to identify and insulate the critical areas in your home. (Save thousands of Rands a year including cost of materials)

9) Stop paying a lot for your electricity Bill make your own electricity with renewable energy methods.

10) Slash your electricity Bill by 80% or even eliminate it completely by creating electricity from your own backyard.

A few hundred Rands a year doesn’t sound like a lot, but combined with everything else is pretty much something to start with. Saving energy is really important right now, if we don’t start saving energy there won’t be anything left for future generations.

Stop paying a lot for your electricity Bill, make your own electricity with renewable energy methods. Create electricity from your own Backyard.

I really admire what these artists are doing to eject corruption from the mentality of Nigerians. But this issue of maga is more complicated than they know.lets assume all those scammers out the stop fraud, what job will they do?Nigerian education system is below grand zero, the job market is only for those that know somebody. So the nobodies will probably end up being rubbers, tugs or criminals in general. My point here is, You don’t fight corruption from the bottom but from the top.

PM boosts David Miliband’s hopes in the Labour leadership contest after comments made in private are revealed David Miliband poses the greatest threat to the Conservative party of all the candidates in the Labour leadership contest, David Cameron has said in private remarks that could change the dynamic of the campaign just days before millions of ballot papers are posted. To the likely delight of the older Miliband, who enters the final stages as the frontrunner, the prime minister has made it clear he believes the shadow foreign secretary stands the best chance of reaching out to middle Britain. A well-placed source told the Guardian: “David Cameron said the candidate he hoped for was Ed Miliband, and the candidate he most feared was David Miliband.” Ed Miliband, who is thought to be slightly behind his brother in first preference votes, but who hopes second choice votes will propel him to victory, is likely to be irritated by Cameron’s remarks, which echo those of supporters of…

Absolutely. In the long run, it will save our country money. Anything to minimize the maniacal power of the Middle East is a good thing.

prosepetals: one has to admire the mind of anyone who can appreciate the important distinctions between Paul Johnson and Bernard Lewis. :) They may both be members of the Commentary crowd, but they are quite different personalities and thinkers. (I am a big fan of Paul Johnson in some important respects, and have devoured all his histories.)

Cyberterrorism is such a threat that the U.S. president should have the authority to shut down the Internet in the event of an attack, Former CIA Director Michael Hayden said.

Men were made to be bold, strong, leaders. However, our society has attempted to repress these traits. If you look at the way men (especially dads) are portrayed on TV, you’d think we were all a bunch of irresponsible, befuddled, nincompoops, who can only function with the help of a “smart” female partner, friend, or spouse. Consequently, many boys are confused and have no idea what it takes to be a real man. They seek inappropriate role models and emulate the bad behavior that they see on a regular basis. It is our duty as men, fathers, and responsible citizens to counter these negative images and raise a new generation of men who are respectful, loving, and willing to contribute to society in a positive way.

Well you would probably have to go through your local wildlife conservation agency. And I really don't think you can buy deer unless you are an agent of a state with a shortage of whitetail deer. I'm not even sure deer are for sale. and, honestly, deer don't do well being kept in a fence. They have territories that they patrol and defend. They like to live with other deer in their herd, not alone. Deer alone have no idea how to act. I really don't think a human can provide the sort of varied diet that deer require. Acorns, vines, berries, some leaves, and occasionally corn or grains are the norm. Deer need water every day. What if it's still nursing when you get it? Can you get deer milk on a regular basis? What if you get a male and when he comes in velvet and get aggressive and possibly injures you or himself…..what will you do then? send him back as defective? Even does can defend themselves pretty well with powerful kicks. Deer can be really aggressive even though you are nearly three times their height….they can weigh up to 200 pounds. That's a lot of cervid anger coming after you cuz it can't get out to compete with other males. Look up deer attacks. Everything from cuts and concussions to broken ribs, gashes, and punctured lungs. Sound fun?

Prices will depend on the market in your area, going back to your question. Deer need shelter from the weather and natural trees and plant in any enclosure. Also a constant source of water….a pond would do. Oh, yeah. In case it got sick you would have to employ the services of an exotics vet……which will automatically up what you're paying without even seeing the animal. In the winter you could feed it hay and corn…..like I said these will depend on the local market where you are. It would have to be a fairly large enclosure…a mile or so so the deer could act like a wild deer.
