in real life, none of those professions need any physics or chemistry background.

land developer sees a piece of farmland in the path of future city expansion. Works with banks to finance the purchase of the land. Develops an overall plan for land, shopping center, neighborhood, etc. Hires civil engineers to assess drainage and utilities and elevations etc that meet local codes. Goes to the local government to change the zoning. Hires a general contractor to prep the land according to the civil engineering specs, builds roads, parking lots. Then maybe hires an architect to design commercial buildings etc and hires other contractors to build the buildings. no chemistry. no physics background.

real estate agents simply find property that people want to sell, and market the property to potential buyers. No chemistry. no physics

attorneys. Come on. the only attorneys that need a background in chemistry or physics are patent attorneys. And even that is a bit sketchy. Most attorneys practice dui and divorce law. meaning they read the codes, know the courtroom proceedings, know the judges and prosecutors and cut deals. the ones involved in a shopping center will know general contract law, liability law, etc.

architects. are basically artists. They design the appearance of the building, stamp the drawings, and approve the final completed project. They are responsible for ingress and egress but that's about it. The structural design part is always farmed out to civil engineers.

interior designer. they pick out colors and textures for rooms, furniture and curtains.

***********
now. the jobs that would need chemistry and physics backgrounds to build a shopping mall are these.

the structural engineering guys. The civil engineers who design the support columns, roof, walls, foundations, stairs, supporting structure for elevators, floors, etc in compliance with local codes. like earthquake design codes. etc.

The mechanical engineering guys. Who design the pumping system and distribution for fire protection, potable water systems, wastewater systems, etc.

The electrical engineers. The guys who figure out how much power the building needs and designs power distribution. an MCC/electrical room. motor control and electrical. This guys plan out the electrical circuits, breaker panels, transformers, etc.

And the project manager. The chief engineer in charge of all the engineering tasks and construction. This person is usually a mechanical or chemical engineer.

Its a fairly easy transition. When they are similar aircraft. In fact, they only need to undergo something called "differences training" which takes a few days at most.

The dials might be different, but when it comes right down to it, an airplane in many respects is an airplane. Once a pilot knows the limitations (published in the AFM) and where all the buttons and knobs are, moving from one type to a similar type is pretty easy.

If, however, they are radically different (as in the case of the 747-400 compared to the previous generations) the pilots must undergo the same basic training that they would if they were simply hired off the street and had never flown that type of plane. It can take a few months.
